The AF Project publishes on a broad range of subjects, genres and forms. These include scholarly articles, interviews, conversations, speculations and artists’ projects. Artists, scholars, critics, graduate students and other prospective contributers who share a passionate interest in art, design and visual culture are encouraged to submit their written work for publication.
Copyright remains with the author and authors may re-publish papers with acknowledgement of The AF Project as the original site of publication.
Articles must be in English and should be no more than 2500 words in length. Exhibition, book and performance reviews should be no more than 1000 words.
The article must be submitted as an MS Word document file. Bibliographic citations, if required, must be given as endnotes. Text should be unformatted, single spaced, with titles of texts and artworks in italics.
Quotations must be accurate and carefully transcribed. Unless governed by fair use, authors must accurately cite and obtain permission to quote published material. Foreign language quotations in both text and notes should be translated into English, unless the significance of the quotation will be lost. The original text may be included in a note if it is unpublished, difficult to access, or of special relevance to the article.
Authors submitting papers who wish to include image reproductions are responsible for obtaining these and the necessary copyright permissions.
Artist, title, date, medium, and dimensions (in inches and centimeters) are separated by commas, followed by a period. Collection, city and credit lines follow, separated by commas. Complete information on medium, dimensions, and collection should be provided if possible. We understand that not all images are of works of art or other objects, and not all of the above data can be included for every image. Works of performance art, architecture, photographs that are themselves artworks, etchings, and other prints, etc. may in some cases not include dimensions or medium or other data.
Publishing Process and Schedule:
After the article is submitted, it is sent to anonymous readers for peer review. It may be returned to the author for revisions once or more. Once an article is accepted for publication, it may or may not appear immediately, at the discretion of the editors.
A short abstract/summary of the article (150 words)
The article as an MS Word document file, with title and full bibliographic citations
A separate list of images you would like to include with the article, including captions
Separate image files in jpeg form, 300 dpi resolution
Author’s name, contact information (email address and telephone number), and a biographical statement of no more than 100 words

SUBMIT YOUR ARTWORK
The AF Project is always looking for artists to promote their original works of art and design on our “Artist Spotlight” page. Through this website and at our events, artists and their works are introduced to collectors, galleries, curators and art enthusiasts.
Review typically requires a one month turnaround period, during which time the editors will notify artists directly if further information or materials are needed. Copyright of the posted images will remain with the artist. There is no fee to submit.

Provide up to 5 images of a recent work or series of works which you would like featured. Images must be in jpeg form, 300 dpi resolution. We will consider works of all media in all publishable formats.
